What's the Story?
AGENTS OF MYSTERY is a six-part Korean series featuring a team of celebs attempting to solve a harrowing criminal case. Six cast members -- actors Lee Hye-ri and Kim Do-hoon, comedians Lee Sun-ji and Lee Yong-jin, and singers Karina and John Park -- have become investigative agents for the X Investigation Network (XIN), which has the technology to locate special electromagnetic waves that pinpoint locations where strange phenomena is occurring. The team is "teleported" to an abandoned factory which was once owned by an alleged kidnapper. Meanwhile, three young women have gone missing, and it's assumed that they're being held at that same location and awaiting rescue. But the group can't be seen, and must complete their mission in under six hours or the teleportation chamber will leave them behind to face the consequences. It's a harrowing job, but they're intent on successfully completing it together.
Is It Any Good?
The surprisingly fun and sometimes goofy immersive experience features young Korean celebs attempting to enter and exit what seem like escape rooms by looking for clues and solving puzzles. The gritty, anxiety-provoking spaces often feature gruesome-looking clues, live bugs, and other unexpected (and uncomfortable) surprises. Having to hide from ominous-looking characters adds to the thrill.
Despite some of the nuanced humor getting lost in translation, it's clear that the entire ordeal isn't meant to be taken seriously. Meanwhile, you can't help but get caught up watching these folks trying to complete the mission without a clue or a cell phone. Ultimately, Agents of Mystery is nothing more than an offbeat unscripted reality experience produced for the sole purpose of entertaining audiences. But that's exactly what makes it worth watching.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about what it's like to be in an escape room. What happens if you can't figure out how to get out?
The cast of Agents of Mystery claimed to know nothing about what was going to happen or why when they arrived. Why do you think they agree to be in the series if they didn't know what it was about?
