Books About Imaginary Friends
Lots of kids have imaginary friends. In fact, studies show that up to a third of children create one, usually between the ages of 3 and 7, enjoying their company until they grow out of them. And imaginary friends take many forms; kids can treat dolls, character toys, and stuffed animals like real pals during pretend play. In the past, an imaginary friend was seen as a sign of insecurity, but not anymore: Some research indicates that kids who have them may have an advantage when it comes to socializing, problem solving, and empathizing. Check out our list of whimsical books that explore this creative relationship, both from the kid's point of view and the imaginary friend's.
