What’s It About?
BRAVE WILDERNESS is an action-packed wildlife adventure channel that educates the public by inviting them to explore and be curious about bizarre and seemingly dangerous animals and insects. The content on this channel is highly educational, but some vocabulary and technical explanations may be too advanced for young children. Coyote Peterson (animal expert) and his regular co-hosts Mark Vins (filmmaker) and Mario Aldecoa (wildlife biologist and photographer) document up-close and personal encounters with a range of animals and insects from playful and cuddly manatees to deadly creatures such as the Black Mamba snake. Hosts interact with wildlife -- frequently provoking bites and stings- -to then provide informational commentary about the featured creatures, their natural habitats, and the effects of their bites or stings on a human being. Their passion and excitement for wildlife biology, animal welfare, and conservation creates an engaging learning experience and encourages viewers to hold curiosity and empathy for all living creatures.
Is It Any Good?
An adventure channel that hooks you, takes you on an immersive field trip, and before you know it leaves you all the more knowledgeable, curious, and responsible for wildlife, is a keeper. Brave Wilderness will inspire kids to dress up as their favorite wildlife YouTube host, Coyote Peterson, on career day, landing somewhere between Indiana Jones and Dora the Explorer. Coyote Peterson received an Emmy in the teen/youth program category for his informative video documenting what to do (or not to do) if you encounter a grizzly bear and landed his own show as host of Animal Planet's series: Coyote Peterson: Brave the Wild. Brave Wilderness has built a large collection of 975+ educational videos that convey positive messages around responsibility, curiosity, empathy, and human impact on local wildlife. The team fosters active and healthy community engagement, encourages viewers and subscribers to participate in conservation initiatives such as fundraisers, campaigns, animal adoption, and to follow guidelines and exercise caution and respect when encountering wildlife. While notable in the area of positive messages and educational content, Brave Wilderness can improve on the channel's diverse representations.
