What's the Story?
In CAMP SNOOPY, Charlie Brown (Etienne Kelicci) and the rest of the Peanuts gang head to Camp Spring Lake for the summer. Meanwhile, Snoopy (Terry McGurrin) is about to lose his position as a Beagle Scout troop leader because his troop (Woodstock and his yellow bird friends) has earned exactly zero badges. Snoopy and his troop set up camp near Spring Lake, where Charlie Brown helps Snoopy overcome the birds' silly shenanigans to earn Beagle Scout badges in hiking and fishing. The human campers participate in typical camp activities (canoeing, roasting marshmallows), all while navigating personal difficulties like homesickness and getting along with each other.
Is It Any Good?
As always, Snoopy, Woodstock, and their physical comedy are hilarious in the summer-themed Peanuts series. Kids will love watching them get into (and out of) silly predicaments the birds' comedy of errors cause. The Camp Snoopy human storylines may be less successful with young viewers. Charlie Brown's plots could be hard to follow for young kids because they're slowly paced and the Snoopy scenes are interspersed throughout. As in all Peanuts shows before it, the nostalgic and gorgeous piano score stands out. While there's nothing negative in Camp Snoopy, it doesn't stand out as much as other, more charming modern Peanuts reboots.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about the lesson in the latest episode of Camp Snoopy. Young children have a hard time learning social-emotional lessons from TV, and they might need help understanding the show's larger meaning.
Families can talk about Lucy. Why is she so mean to all the other kids? Who in Camp Snoopy is a better and kinder friend?
