What's the Story?
DOCTOR CLIMAX follows a socially awkward dermatologist in 1970s Thailand who becomes an accidental public expert in sexual health when he finds himself writing an anonymous advice column navigating the complexities of sexual health and societal expectations.
Is It Any Good?
The series blends humor with serious themes of sexual freedom and expression, set against a richly depicted 1970s Thailand. While Doctor Climax starts as a light-hearted, occasionally even ridiculous, exploration of sexual politics, the tone becomes increasingly darker and more chaotic as the series progresses. This transition, while aiming to deepen the narrative, makes the story feel disjointed. Overall, its an ambitious project that captures the spirit of the 1970s with flair and wit, but struggles to maintain a consistent voice.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about what Doctor Climax reveals about the 1970s societal norms and attitudes towards sex in Thailand. How have these attitudes shifted over time and in different parts of the world?
Ask your teen about what feels realistic or appropriate to them. Consider (at least occasionally) pointing out instances where there's no discussion of contraception/consent or safe sex or when the couple actually does talk about contraception.
