What's the Story?
HOMESCHOOL MUSICAL: CLASS OF 2020 is hosted by Tony Award-winner Laura Benanti, and the seven high school seniors she selected to sing and produce #SunshineSong videos. During the documentary we meet Annie, Isaiah, Elizabeth, Jefferey, Fischer, Joseph, and Alana. Each high school senior shares how COVID-19 impacted their lives and their last year of high school; stories vary from becoming homeless to realizing they are a Trans person. Everyone is given the opportunity to perform a song that is meaningful to them; covers of songs by Florence + the Machine and Sam Smith are included, among others. They are able to come together in the end and sing.
Is It Any Good?
A wonderful documentary that embodies the quote, "when there aren't words, there's music." At at time when the future of the world was unknown Homeschool Musical: Class of 2020 shows how we can come together to use our voice and make something beautiful. This is a multi-layered special that also explores teen mental health issues during COVID-19. This is an inspirational and diverse piece that helps us remember to have hope and never stop doing what we love.
