What's the Story?
IRON REIGN (a.k.a. Mano de hierro) is a Spanish action series about a Spanish gangster and a drug shipment gone terribly wrong. Joaquín Manchado (Eduard Fernández) is the head of the main terminal of the Port of Barcelona and considered a pillar of the business community. But in reality, Manchado is a powerful organized crime boss who smuggles drugs through the port. Working with him is his daughter Rocío (Natalia de Molina) and his son-in-law Néstor (Jaime Lorente), who happens to be the head of customs. Younger son Ricardo (Enric Auquer) works at the port, too, but is less reliable due to his gambling addiction. Meanwhile, Victor Julve (Chino Darín), who happens to be Néstor's old friend, operates the loading cranes, but seems to be on his own separate mission. Not surprisingly, Manchado is in control of everything at the port, so when a valuable cargo shipment is due to arrive, he does everything he can to ensure that its delivery moves forward without a hitch. But soon things begin to go wrong, sparking a war between rival gangs.
Is It Any Good?
This Spanish gangster series (available dubbed and subtitled in English) offers lots of twists and turns that will keep viewers on their toes. Iron Reign is a work of fiction, but thanks to the increase in real-life seizures of cocaine shipments arriving from Central and South America to Spain and throughout Europe, it's not hard to accept how the corrupt Manchado family (which means "stained" in English) is doing everything it can to protect its interests. As Joaquín Manchado's associates murder those who lack loyalty, fight off rival gangs, or look for moles, there are also interpersonal relationships between them that create drama. It's not for everyone, but Iron Reign is an action-filled series that fans of crime stories will enjoy.
