What's the Story?
MIGHTY BHEEM'S PLAYTIME follows the lead character from Netflix's Mighty Little Bheem, based on the Indian mythological character who bears super-strength. In this iteration, Bheem's mom gets a job working at the palace and sends Bheem to school, where he meets new friends and enters new adventures, from the initial fear of separation anxiety to Bheem's love of drawing and sharing experiences with his friends.
Is It Any Good?
Refreshing settings and colorful visuals elevate an otherwise typical preschool show. Mighty Bheem's Playtime repeats the winning formula of Mighty Little Bheem by continuing the series of non-dialogue adventures and a commitment to cultural authenticity. While the introduction of the school scenario adds relatability, it slightly dilutes the charm of the small Indian village backdrop. Animals are still present, and kids will identify with Bheem and his friends as they engage in issues relating to group dynamics: learning to share toys, lunch, and even the spotlight.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about the setting of Mighty Bheem's Playtime and how it relates to the viewers' experience. In which ways they are similar? And what is different?
In school, Bheem is learning how to behave around other kids. Talk about some of the difficulties --sharing, making new friends -- and some of the lessons they learn.
One character in the school is sometimes mean towards Bheem -- pranking him and wanting his attention. Discuss the reasons that lead to this behavior, and how Bheem is able to win him over with kindness.
