Relaxing vibe-heavy vacation show
The opening scene of the series is a woman very quickly retelling a very bad week she had. This part is a little stressful but nothing really bad for kids about the scene other than her using the word “crap” to describe how a recipe turned out. Without a lot of explanation as to why, she now works at the Pokémon Resort. The episodes are generally pretty chill with the woman who is helping Pokémon relax on their vacations. There is a minor jump scare at one point, but it’s more of a surprise than anything terrifying. It’s incredibly cute and my six year old enjoyed it a lot.
What's the Story?
POKÉMON CONCIERGE is a stop-motion animated series featuring people and their magical pets taking time to relax. In one week Haru (Karen Fukuhara) lost her boyfriend, messed up at her office job, and stepped on gum; she decided to change the trajectory of her life and take a job at the Pokémon Resort, a tropical island where humans and Pokémon can take time off. Under the watchful eye of Mrs. Watanabe (Lori Alan), Haru works as a Pokémon concierge who helps magical creatures during their stay. Also working at the resort are the athletic and confident Alisa (Imani Hakim), and Tyler (Josh Keaton), who works sanitation. There are lots of challenging moments, but Haru discovers that she loves the work, and that she's having fun doing it.
Is It Any Good?
The charming series features a likable cast and classic Pokémon characters enjoying themselves on an island designated for relaxation. The stop-motion animation allows creatures like Psyduck, Dragonite, and, of course, Pikachu to be presented with finer detail, making them all the more appealing. Meanwhile, Haru's job isn't always easy, but helping her magical guests always brings her the satisfaction she was lacking in her previous life. Messages about the importance of rest, having fun, and being happy with oneself are offered throughout. Overall, Pokémon Concierge is fun for kids, but adult fans of the franchise will also appreciate the visual presentation and the values it's communicating.
