What's the Story?
The Selling Sunset spin-off SELLING THE OC is an unscripted series featuring 11 real estate agents hired by the Oppenheimer Group to land listings and close deals for high-end properties in Orange County, California. Newbie Brandi Marshall joins folks like Alex Hall, the self-confident Gio Helou, Kayla Cardona, and former models Austin Victoria and Polly Brindle as they go on exclusive home tours, work with clients, and try to land huge commissions. Rounding out the group are pros like Tyler Stanaland and Sean Palmer, and Alexandra Jarvis and Alexandra Rose, whose friendship and successful professional partnership seems to irritate most folks in their Corona del Mar office. The drama is high and the gossip between them is endless. But when it comes to dominating the Orange County real estate market, failure is not an option.
Is It Any Good?
The voyeuristic series combines limited high-end real estate business dealings with lots of catty work-family drama. Like Selling Sunset, Selling the OC offers a great chance to see the inside of beachside homes that most people never get the chance to look at, let alone consider buying. It also offers an ensemble of sleek, good-looking agents. But beneath the sunny façade is a competitive group of young professionals vying for listings and high commissions while having silly arguments and engaging in inappropriate behaviors with each other when clients aren't present. If you like guilty pleasures, you may find it entertaining. But if you've ever watched real estate reality, this will feel like you've seen it all before.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about the the work that real estate agents do to land clients and successfully close sales. Are the skills required to sell high-end properties any different than the skills necessary to sell homes in middle-class neighborhoods?
Do the agents featured on Selling the OC act the same way toward each other when the cameras are off? Is this professional, even if clients aren't watching them? Does their behavior on the series affect the company's overall business?
