What's the Story?
WE ARE FAMILY is a game show featuring non-famous relatives of celebrities and people trying to figure out which celebrities they are related to. Hosted by Anthony Anderson and his sidekick, Mama Doris, the game consists of three rounds, during which a celebrity relative sings while their famous family member stands behind a sphere that diguises who they are. Clues are also given throughout. The 100 audience participants watch the clues and register their guesses throughout the performances, and then the celebrity is revealed. Those lucky enough to guess correctly share a pot of money. After the second round, the person who entered their correct guesses the fastest gets to play the final round for a chance to win up to $100K.
Is It Any Good?
This entertaining, upbeat competition features lots of great singing performances and breath-holding moments as audiences excitedly guess who's behind the sphere. While there's some elation about winning money in We Are Family, it's the musical presentations by the top (and not-so-top) celebs and their relatives that are the most fun, especially when the non-famous person really shines in their own spotlight. The audience participants' individual interpretations of the clues often lead to some whacky guesses, too. But the best part of We Are Family is its overall positive energy, which makes it a good pick for family viewing.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about what makes a good game show. Is it the host? The participants? The prize? Or is it the actual game that makes them appealing?
Is We Are Family designed to be a promotional vehicle for the celebrity or his/her/their relative? Does it need to give a cash prize for audiences to get excited about it?
