Educational content is the name of the game in this series, as are glorious images of the natural world. In Wild Isles, there's ominous music that crescendos as a predator jumps on its prey. There are slow-motion shots of colorful birds emerging from watery feeding grounds with fish in their beaks. We've come to expect this type of sensual feast from Attenborough, whose nature documentaries have been stunning audiences for decades.

Fans of nature documentaries will enjoy this most, as will Anglophiles who may perk up when they hear that their favorite corner of Britain is home to a puffin. What makes this documentary unique is the patient whisper Attenborough reserves for his homeland. The grandfatherly awe in his voice comes through as ancient oak trees are explored, as does his gentle plea to preserve life as it exists on a heavily populated island.
