What's the Story?
SUPACELL takes place in South London, where five ordinary people suddenly discover they have superpowers. When Michael (Tosin Cole) is visited by himself from the future, he realizes he must bring the five new heroes together in order to save his fiancée's life.
Is It Any Good?
Few superhero stories have been cribbed from other superhero stories as blatantly as this show, which imbues its heroes with powers that might as well have been selected from a mail order catalogue. In Supacell, one superhero has super strength, one has super speed, one can travel through time, and so on. A cliched streak runs through the rest of the show as well. Since the series is about Black South Londoners, that means each of the characters also gets saddled with a Black stereotype. Among the five main characters, there's an ex-con, a drug dealer, and a gang member. Audiences are already showing fatigue for superhero stories. This one takes a tried-and-true premise and does it the most obvious way possible.

Who is the "villain" in this series? What makes them bad? How do the heroes attempt to thwart the villains? How do they work together?
How do the characters' identities as Black South Londoners inform the events of the series? What makes the characters unique to superhero stories?
