The best Real Estate Show
What's the Story?
OWNING MANHATTAN is an unscripted series about a real estate broker trying to take over Manhattan, New York. Former Million Dollar Listing New York cast member Ryan Serhant has opened his own real estate brokerage, SERHANT, which leans heavily into social media marketing as a way of maintaining a competitive edge. When the series starts, the company ranks No. 6 among real estate brokerage firms in New York City, but Ryan, who has invested everything he has into this business, wants it to be No. 1. In between the few hours he spends with his family, he's doing everything he can to motivate his 350 agents to close the city's most expensive listings and close multimillion- (and sometimes billion-) dollar deals. There's a lot of competition between the agents to sell these luxury properties and collect big commissions, but it takes a lot of work, charm, and savvy to make it happen.
Is It Any Good?
The predictable series features a real estate reality personality trying to make major cash in the high-end real estate business. Like most unscripted shows of this type, there's drama among the agents as they compete for listings and try to rent and sell high-end properties. As a result, viewers get to see some of New York City's most exclusive and expensive properties on the market. But Owning Manhattan is as much about Ryan Serhant and his big personality as it is about his company, his agents, and the world of N.Y.C. real estate. If you enjoy watching reality drama combined with the real estate game, this one will fit the bill.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about what it's like working in high-end real estate. Is the work harder when you're trying to sell very expensive and exclusive properties? What are the benefits of doing so?
What does Owning Manhattan show us about the role of social media in the real estate industry today? What kinds of things do they do to promote properties through digital platforms?
